Are you a Hare or a Tortoise? Self-Discipline and Internet Marketing

When it comes to Internet Marketing, are you a Hare or a Tortoise?  Do you get off to a fast start with a big idea and then fizzle out, or are you more cautious, methodical and disciplined?

If I had to choose one quality that characterizes successful people it would probably be self-discipline. You might have the natural talent of a Picasso, the IQ of an Einstein  and  the emotional intelligence of an Oprah Winfrey   but if you don’t have the self-discipline to consistently do the right thing at the right time, whether you want to or not, it is highly unlikely that you will be successful over the long-term.

Nowhere is this more important than in internet marketing. The best marketers complete the small, important tasks consistently day after day whatever is happening in their lives, and whatever mood they are in. They know that it is making small, incremental improvements day after day that is the key to success online.  They set up a new PPC campaign on Monday morning and evaluate it in the afternoon; then on Tuesday they change the headlines of an ad or the content of a squeeze page, and measure, evaluate and refine once more. They repeat this process again and again until they get it right.

This self-discipline will take the tortoise way beyond the  hare who might have a superior product or better copy, but never measures or evaluates or gets bored with the whole analytical process. They learn lots of techniques, set up their campaign quickly, try a few things and give up or just wait for the big idea that they think will make them rich but that never arrives.  The Tortoise will always beat the Hare in this race.
