More Groundhog Day Principles of Internet Marketing

I keep on returning to my book The Magic of Groundhog Day when I am planning and implementing internet marketing campaigns. I write about five key types of magic that Phil Connors uses to transform his life and the first of these is the Magic of Paying Attention

Change at work like everywhere else begins by Paying Attention. When I used to give lectures at Oxford on organizational behavior I never started by talking about business models or superior performance or market share. No, I began by stating that the most important skill we need in business is “relaxed alertness.” You should always be calm and aware. Think of Roger Federer playing tennis!

When you pay attention to what is going on in your internet marketing campaigns in this state of relaxed alertness, you are able to see what is really going on and be detached and objective. There is no need for you to get anxious or restless. Just observe the true situation you face, whether it is working out or not. The point is that you can make it better, you can improve day by day just as Phil does.

When you pay attention, you slow down and focus on the present moment. You are better able to complete tasks rather than being fixated on the past or future. When you focus on one task at a time and avoid multi-tasking, you will become far more productive and far more successful.

You are able to interrupt your habitual patterns of thinking and break free by consciously choosing where to place your attention. This self-discipline is the foundation of the most successful marketers I know. The ability to do what is necessary, however hard, rather than what is easy, is the hallmark of top marketers, entrepreneurs and CEOs.

Once we take charge of our mind we can make incredible breakthroughs at work. For example, I once coached a marketer who was a brilliant networker. She was great at generating leads but very poor at following through. I taught her to maintain her focus, not to think about other prospects or what might go wrong, and simply complete the steps leading to the sale. She learned to manage her mind, stop herself drifting off, and stick to her plan. This led to a massive increase in her online sales.

So watch the movie, read my book or wait for the CD version of my book when it is released by Nightingale Conant in September.  Everything you need for a happy life and successful career  is in this amazing movie.
